The scientific periodical of the Institute of Problems of Artificial Intelligence of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was launched in 1995 (Certificate of state registration of the printed media of the series KV, 801803 of 20.11.1995). The co-founder of the publication is the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
During 1995-2020, the publication in the original language was called "Shtuchnyy intelekt", in Ukrainian - "Shtuchnyy intelekt". The abbreviated title was "Iskusstv. intell. (Donetsk, Print)". ISSN (print) 1561-5359, ISSN (online) 1561-5375. The languages of the publication were: Russian, Ukrainian and English.
In 2020, the title of the publication was changed to "Artificial Intelligence", "Shtuchnyy intelekt", as well as the languages of the publication to English and Ukrainian. Media identifier R30-07226 (decision dated 09.04.2026 No. 1038 (protocol No. 8) of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting "On the statement of the State University of Information and Communication Technologies, Kyiv, regarding the registration of an entity in the field of print media").

The journal is designed for specialists in the field of artificial intelligence technology for various applications, as well as for foreign readers who want to get acquainted with the achievements of Ukraine in the field of artificial intelligence.

The purpose of the journal ''Artificial Intelligence'' is to highlight current scientific research on artificial intelligence, theoretical and applied results in the areas of information technology,computer science, software and computer engineering, as well as to promote the development of scientific potential, innovative activity and the integration of Ukrainian science into the global scientific space.

Throughout the existence of the journal, its international editorial board has included well-known experts in the field of cybernetics and information technology, world-renowned scientists who provide quality independent review and selection of articles.
The editorial board of 15 people throughout all years of existence strictly adheres to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as well as international standards for publication requirements, which publish the main scientific results of dissertations and scientific works by applicants for scientific degrees and academic titles.
The journal publishes original review articles, problem and discussion materials, reports of conferences and meetings on cybernetics, introduction of artificial intelligence technologies in economics, public administration, defense and other areas, including materials of the International Conference "Creating a strategy for artificial intelligence in Ukraine".
The editors strictly adhere to the frequency of publication.
The editorial board supports the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), aimed at the free and gratuitous dissemination of scientific knowledge, which contributes to the accelerated development of science. This means that all content is freely available free of charge to the user or his / her institution. Anyone may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full text of articles, or use them for any other legitimate purpose without seeking prior permission from the publisher or author.
Thanks to the efforts of the Institute of Problems of Artificial Intelligence DUIKT and the editorial board over the years, the journal published 31 volumes (more than 100 issues), which published more than 4000 scientific articles (30% - with foreign authors).
Over the years of its existence, the scientific periodical has published a significant number of results of dissertations, which contributed to the development and formation of young scientists in Ukraine. The results of scientific research of well-known leading Ukrainian and foreign scientists were also published. At present, the journal is a recognized and well-known scientific publication in Ukraine and abroad.
