Abstract: In this paper the method for compressing images based on the coding only first digit representing brightness (color), is considered. The criterion for effectiveness of this method is deduced. It is proved, that for 3 frequency distribution lower than o ( x ) the method is effective and quality of this effectiveness is estimated.
