Abstract: In article the concept of system of automatic recognition of car licensed plates is presented. The main stages of construction and functioning of automatic recognition system which are the separate interconnected subtasks allowing independent consideration are defined. Features of tasks at each stage and possible ways of their decision are considered. The separate attention is given to criteria of car plate recognition systems quality which in many respects define used approaches in the course of system development.
