Abstract: The problem of ontologies using as models of application domain (AD), i.e. the possibility of reflection by ontologies of essential sides of AD, acquisition of new information, forecasting, explanation, etc. is analyzed in the paper. Particular emphasis is being given to the research a link between ontologies and mathematical models.
